Future Transport Engineering Conference What types of transport will we be using in the next 10 years? And who's going to come up with the ideas for them? The Engineering Council believes it's today's imaginative and creative young people who will be responsible for the future of transport - With this in mind, they are holding a three-day residential conference for 13-15 year olds at the University of Leicester from 17-19th July. 40 engineers and 25 teachers will helping them to look at transport needs for the future and come up with design solutions. For more information, contact Stuart Robinson at the Engineering Council, srobinson@engc.org.uk or visit http://www.futec.org.uk The Science Year Quiz As promised, for those who missed the Tomorrow's World Live show, we now bring you the online version of the quiz that had the prize-hungry audience mobbing the stage! Test your wits against the quiz-devils at Science Line who dreamt up those tricky questions for us ... We have twenty packets of space food to give away to the first respondents who get all the answers correct ... Renaming the Teacher's Area Many thanks to those of you who replied to the request for suggestions as to what to rename the 'Teacher's' section of the Science Year website. The suggestion book is still open so please get in touch if you have good ideas. Just to reiterate the situation: we'd like a new name for the teachers' area of the Science Year website. We're looking for something that sounds suitably in touch with the decade situation. Also, something suitably in touch with the needs of teachers (which no doubt explains a number of the suggestions so far, 'The cup of tea', 'Cane and Candour' and 'the Valium Hit'...) Please send any more ideas you have to anne.mcnaught@scienceyear.com The supplier of the best answer will receive a Science Year goodie bag! Wooooh! Work Experience Thanks to all of you who applied, we hope to have something fixed-up in the next few days. We'll let you know if any more exciting opportunities arise - so watch this space. Jokes And the jokes keep rolling in... Special thanks to Blenheim High School for the following: Two hydrogen atoms are walking down the street...... "Cripes!" says the first one, "I've lost an electron" "Are you sure?" asked the second one, "Yes I'm positive!" Boom boom. Obviously a top quality science joke, but I'm sure there are others as good as that - or even possibly...probably....definitely... BETTER than that! And if so we want to know about it... Any other business! As ever, please dont hesitate to contact us if you have any comments or thoughts regarding the newsletter or website for future weeks or jokes. The address is: anne.mcnaught@scienceyear.com Thank you! Return to archive |
