The Festival of Science and Culture celebrated cultural diversity in scientific achievements and focused on space exploration. The highlight of the festival was a visit from Dr Guion Bluford, the world’s first Black astronaut. Dr Bluford’s visit was the focal point of a larger event to share Black contributions to science, engineering and technology to all sectors of the community. African Caribbean children were targeted for the purpose of raising aspirations and other communities were invited to encourage inclusiveness and raise awareness

DENFORD SPONSORSHIP: F1 in SCHOOLS
Science Year contributed towards the challenge in 2002. The F1 Team in Schools Challenge is a competition, open to all UK based secondary schools and colleges, to design and manufacture CO2 powered model racing cars (dragsters). Student teams compete against each other in a national championship to determine the best engineered and fastest car in the UK
