Amazing Ants

Teamwork helps ants escape puddles.

If it rains, ants can be in trouble. They're small enough to be trapped by a single drop of liquid. Imagine what a whole puddle could do!

What would you do if you were an ant?

Team work is the solution. By mimicking the physical properties of liquids, ants can manage to overcome even the largest puddle.

This astonishing video from Micah Streiff and his team at the Georgia Institute of Technology shows groups of ants  working together and behaving just like a viscous liquid. Amazingly, if the ants work together and form a 'raft', they can work their way out of a puddle! Watch and see:

What other animals do you know of that work cooperatively to overcome problems?
