health & safety
Remember to keep health and safety in mind at all times when trying these experiments.
Follow the instructions carefully and take into account all possible safety considerations.
If these experiments are being carried out at home, adults should be aware of what is going on. In addition, some experiments require direct adult supervision.
The experiments should not be carried out on the dining table! The kitchen or an old table in the garage would be best.
If you need to wait for a few days or longer to get results, leave the experiments somewhere safe, where they arent a danger for younger children and they cant be knocked over, tidied away or interfered with.
Be aware of basic first aid, e.g. for heat burns, hold under cold running water until the area no longer feels hot (which might take 20 minutes), if you get chemicals in the eye, rinse with running water for at least 10 minutes.
If you're a teacher, you should be familiar with the 'Be Safe' booklet. If you don't have a copy, you can buy one from ASE booksales here: http://www.ase.org.uk
The CLEAPSS School Service http://www.cleapss.org.uk will be able to help with any other safety concerns you have.
