Quotation from Pool of London Partnership Director...

The Pool of London Partnership (PLP) is the regeneration agency working to improve the physical, social and economic environment of the high-profile Pool of London area which stretches from London Bridge to just past Tower Bridge on both sides of the River Thames.

"The Pool of London Partnership is generously supporting this project because it is in keeping with our vision for the area, by providing training and development opportunities for local people. We believe this project can help bright and enthusiastic local students maximise their potential to learn, in cases where access to medical schools would normally be prohibitive, sometimes for reasons out of their control such as the expense.

The extended degree is a simple, yet effective way of broadening the type of students entering the course, resulting in a better mix of doctors at the end of it.

Another valuable aspect of the project is its contribution to tackling the long-standing recruitment problem within the health sector. With Guy’s Hospital as a major employer in the Pool of London, we believe that some of these shortages can be met by the local workforce, by people who have valuable language skills and experience in other fields that could be beneficial in the treatment of patients or the smooth-running of such a large organisation. The outreach work that we are funding will raise awareness about the broad range of jobs available in the health sector."
