"It’s Saturday night and it’s time for Inventor’s Idol!

If you have a talent for inventing, this show will make you a star. That’s right and we’re down to t
he last ten competitors. First to show his inventions is Thomas Alva Edison. Take it away!"

"Thank-you!
Up first is my electrical vote recorder.

This machine promises to make voting faster and more accurate. It is the first invention I patented.

A patent stops people from copying my ideas and trying to sell them."

"This next invention is an improvement to Alexander Graham Bell’s invention, the telephone.

I have added a carbon transmitter to the telephone so that people will be heard more clearly and they no longer have to shout."

"The final invention for the show is the phonograph.

This is the first machine to record sounds ever. I stumbled upon this invention by accident. As you turn the metal cylinder, a needle cuts grooves into it to record sounds. Then to play the sounds back, a needle connected to a large horn runs through the grooves as the cylinder turns. The very first words that I recorded were ‘Mary had a little lamb’!"

"Thank you Thomas, let’s go over to the panel of judges:"
