The learning programme in the National Curriculum is divided into age groups otherwise known as "Key Stages".
Pupils study the same four areas of science and investigation whatever age they are, but as they progress through school, they will build on and add to their existing knowledge.
e.g. 10 year olds will learn that light travels from a source, whereas 14 year olds will learn that light travels in a straight line at a finite speed in a uniform medium (even though they may not recognise that exact phrase word for word!)
