GIMME THE FACTS – AND THEN SOME

Science isn’t just about ‘facts’, but when you do need to find out an answer, there are several places you can go.

Your local library

The internet. Try using a search engine, like Google, Altavista or Metacrawler. Just type a few words (eg. moon’s distance from Earth’) into the ‘search’ box and hit return. Just remember that since anyone can publish anything on the web, you’re not guaranteed that anything you read is correct. We find that sites with ‘org’ or ‘.ac.uk’ or ‘edu’ on the end (ie academic or non-for-profit sites) usually tend to be reliable – whereas commercial sites plastered with credit card and online gambling adverts may not be.

Science Line

Sadly Science Line is no longer in operation as a question-answering service, but their website’s still there, and packed with questions and answers that may help you.
