Mr Potato Head KS1 SC2 2a

Ear, ear, what’s Mr Potato Head lost now, it’s not his head. He is a careless potato who often loses parts of his body. It’s a good job this doesn’t happen to the rest of us.

Activities:

There are some parts of the body that we have that Mr Potato Head never had in the first place – what are they?

There are cut-outs to create your own Potato Head person here.

Ask your class to label all Mr Potato Head’s features and limbs.

“What has Mr Potato Head lost?” Game:
Make a large drawn Mr Potato head (perhaps with the class).
Make sure you can easily stick on or remove all the parts.
Let the class see the complete picture, then ask them to cover their eyes up, and remove a part or swap two parts over. Get them to look, and the first to spot the missing or swapped part gets a point, or perhaps gets to remove the bit in the next round.
Alternatively you could make an A4 Drawing of a Potato for each pupil the they put one bit on and pass it on round the class for the next bit and so on.

Body parts game.
This game is a bit like ‘Twister’ but without the mat. You use someone else instead.
You need one caller, which would normally be the teacher. Any other adults would be handy to adjudicate! This game could also be used as a fun warm up for a P.E. lesson.

1. Children pair up
2. Caller calls out 2 body parts, eg ear & elbow (you could pick the parts out of a bag for maximum randomness, or just make them up)
3. the children have to make these parts touch
4. more and more body parts are called out that must touch
5. If a part that has already been called like the elbow they must use the other elbow and not move the first until that part is called again.
6. If they get it wrong or can't keep the tangle they get in they are out.
