Lewis Latimer (1848-1928)KS1 SC4 1b

Lewis Latimer, the son of a former slave was the only african-american member of Edison’s research team. Latimer helped to develop the long lasting filament that is used to produce light in the light bulb. But that’s not all that Lewis did. He met up with Alexander Graham Bell and drew up the invention of his telephone for the patent office. He stayed up all night in order to beat Bell’s rival. (He made it to the patent office only hours before his rival).
