alexandra the great SUE STALLEY of Alexandra School in Harrow as gone literally above the call of duty check her out on the school roof! This project is also noteworthy for its imaginative use of a local company and a grant giving body. Heres her report: ALEXANDRA SCHOOL As part of a focus for Science Year, Alexandra School, a primary EBD/MLD school in Harrow made a successful application to the Royal Society for a Partnership Award to work in collaboration with a scientist from the Research and Development Department at Kodak Ltd, a local employer. Pupils from years 5,6 and 7 thought about what it might be like to be a scientist, did some web-based research on famous scientists and prepared interview questions for our partner scientist. They then behaved as scientists, by making predictions and planning individual experiments to compare the heights different pop bottle Rokits would reach.
In order to measure the height achieved by the Rokits they used a digital video camcorder to record the flights. The camcorder and software was purchased with money from the Royal Society grant. The pupils are now involved in working with our scientist to transfer the images from the camcorder to the school network and eventually to our website. http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/alexsch/content.html We intend to develop the use of the camcorder for recording investigative work as many of our pupils have difficulty with recording their results by writing and or drawing.
