poster power...the power of posters

Posters provide a great way of presenting information that packs a punch. Two of Science Year’s funded projects involved developing posters for display in schools to encourage pupils’ interest in science.

faces of modern science

Freelance photographer James Hunkin travelled the length and breadth of the UK to meet and photograph 100 highly diverse scientists at work.

The results were put together with autobiographical quotes from each of the participants to form a series of six A2 careers posters entitled ‘Fast Forward to the Future’.

These were themed by subject and highlighted opportunities in different disciplines in science and technology, ranging from astrophysics, to zoology, engineering and colour chemistry.

poster power

Science communication design company Graphic Science were awarded Science Year funding to produce two posters designed to help get the scientific message across in schools.

The first poster was entitled ‘Catch the Wave’ and it’s aim was to encourage kids to get involved with Science Year and all its projects.

The second was an ‘empty belly’ poster, which featured funky science text and images around a blank white centre, specifically so that teachers or club leaders could use the space to promote in-house science activities and events in an exciting and ‘cool’ way!
