planet science diner... food on the web

food sites

OK Planet Science Diners, we've had a look round the giant virtual fridge that is the World Wide Web and, carefully avoiding the fortnight old meat pies and various fuzzy veg, here is what's fresh and worth consuming.

Enjoy

The Hunger Site
http://www.thehungersite.com

First Up here's something to make you feel good before you've even started your surfing. Make this your home page and you can donate a tiny amount to ease world hunger everyday, and with millions of people online you can imagine how it adds up!

Food Standards
http://www.foodstandards.gov.uk

It can be dangerous stuff food! Learn all you need to know about keeping food safe and keeping yourself fit and healthy - lots of very informative corners to this site, plus some really cute interactive games.

Foodfit?
http://www.foodfit.com

Well, if you're not foodfit then you have no excuse with this fab food site. First it goes fairly thoroughly through your existing diet, weight and exercise regime in the form of a questionnaire, then offers you sound and sensible advice on how you might like to change your eating habits and routines.

Be honest now! It praises you where praise is due, and gives you the facts about the consequences of your not entering into the spirit of being as fit as you should be. They have very neat calculators for how many calories you use up exercising, and even a good foody shopping list for you to click and print off to remind you not to stray into the old salt/sugar/fat aisle at Tesco's. Almost too much fun to be good for you!

Teen Eating
http://www.teenshealth.org

From the USA - very comprehensive list of teen nutritional info and help - anything from binge eating to recipes for veggie lasagne. If you're a teen and you have any questions about your health relating to diet, dieting, height, weight or eating the right diet for your sporting activity - look no further!

Jamie Oliver
http://www.jamieoliver.net

Yes - we've included the pukka one for you because he has a lot to say on the subject of young people and food - and a right slagging for school dinners! (see http://www.ananova.com if your school dinners are rubbish and you need to quote an expert!) and he has a section for younger children on his site - with the unfathomable pukkatron game!

Feeding Your Teenager
http://www.keepkidshealthy.com

Don't just read this if you have a teenager to look after, read it if you are one! This is a very sensible page of nutrition advice just in case you haven't heard any advice about healthy eating because you've been on mars or something. They have a particularly good food pyramid that will reinforce the difference between a good and a bad diet.
