water down the plughole... tips & tricks

Some handy information to help you get the best results.

There are lots of factors that might determine which direction the water will go down the plug hole.

These include the following

- Position, shape and size of the plug hole
- Shape and surface of the tub
- Amount of water used
- Turbulence in the water

To obtain the best results we recommend that you:

Use a round, smooth-sided basin or bowl, with a plughole in the centre.

Remove turbulence. You can do this in two ways:

By letting the water sit for as long as possible before pulling out the plug. Overnight or longer will give you the best results.

If you can't let the water sit for very long, reduce the turbulence quickly by placing a card vertically into the water to interrupt the circulation currents.

Conduct the experiment away from vibrating floors or surfaces.

Take care not to disturb the water until you're ready to remove the plug.

Remove the plug gently and slowly. If you can, pull the plug out from below. If this isn't possible, use a plug with chain attached so that you can easily pull it out from above.

Want to use your left over water wisely? Use it on your garden, put it in a bird bath, use it to wash your car or bike, or use it for washing up.
