all you need is
Balloon
Teaspoon
Vinegar
Baking soda
Funnel
Small plastic drinks bottle
1. Pour the vinegar into the bottle until it is about one centimetre deep.
2. Place the funnel in the neck of the balloon and fill with 1 teaspoon of baking soda.
3. Keep the balloon hanging down and stretch its neck over the neck of the bottle. Make sure it is secure.
4. Whilst holding the bottle over your kitchen sink, lift the balloon up quickly so that all the baking soda falls into the bottle.
science
As soon as the baking soda meets the vinegar, it begins to fizz and the balloon inflates. The chemical name for vinegar is acetic acid and the chemical name for baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. When you mix these two together they react with each other. We call this a chemical reaction. When vinegar and baking soda react, carbon dioxide gas is given off and it inflates the balloon.
When a chemical reaction occurs, nothing is destroyed or created. It is just changed. All chemical reactions involve a change in the substances and a change in energy. Not all chemicals that meet each other react in this way.
You should try experimenting with different amounts of vinegar and baking soda.
