pest detectives

http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/learninganddiscovery/

...is the National Trust's first ever online game... and it's, scuse the pun, buggy brilliant! You need Flash 5 software to view it, and it's a learning adventure in which your aim is to move around an old house, finding and identifying insects, and answering questions. The graphics are funky, and the 'insectopaedia' will help you at every turn!

foodfit?

http://www.foodfit.com/About/about.asp

Well, if you're not foodfit then you have no excuse with this fab food site. First it goes fairly thoroughly through your existing diet, weight and exercise regime in the form of a questionnaire, then offers you sound and sensible advice on how you might like to change your eating habits and routines. Be honest now! It praises you where praise is due, and gives you the facts about the consequences of your not entering into the spirit of being as fit as you should be. They have very neat calculators for how many calories you use up exercising, and even a good foody shopping list for you to click and print off to remind you not to stray into the old salt/sugar/fat aisle at Tesco's. Almost too much fun to be good for you!

hollywood science

http://www.open2.net/science/hollywood_science/

No – we’re not just talking plastic surgery and special FX here, this is a very entertaining site, packed with the science of the impossible – or is it? Putting Movie Magic to the test in very accessible stages – could Bruce Willis really have survived the leap from the exploding tower in Die Hard? – Could Paul Newman really have eaten 50 hard boiled eggs in Cool Hand Luke? These questions answered and more, a must if you missed the TV show.

visible human

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/research/visible/applications.html

Find out with a guided tour of the Visible Human from MAD scientists - complete three-dimensional images of the male and female human body. The anatomical detail is fascinating, if a bit yukky.

physics applets

http://www.colorado.edu/physics/2000/applets/

No - not small apples, but very very entertaining physics concepts all in interactive form. From Atoms to Microwave Ovens! Anyone could easily spend a happy half hour or more playing with these little devils, but would come away with a great understanding of what they have been seeing. How does a telly work? Find out here! What do chemicals in the periodic table look like close up? Find out here! This is a great site - simple but very effective!

the atoms family

http://www.miamisci.org/af/sln/index.html

Nifty idea for a site, uses horror characters to guide you through some science activities. Looks attractive, and the ideas are explained in a fun way.

physics of breakdancing

http://www.kent.wednet.edu/staff/trobinso/physicspages
/PhysOf99/Break-JLee/

No – really! If you are already a breakdancer then see how you are bending the forces of physics to your will. If you are not, then this is unlikely to tempt you as it all looks far too much like hard work, but the physics is still very entertaining!

science humour site

http://www.xs4all.nl/~jcdverha/scijokes/13_3.html

Humour is the best medicine. This site is dedicated to medical, biology, physical science, and chemistry humour of all sorts.

explorescience.com

http://www.explorescience.com

Brilliant site! Lots of interactive games and fun to explain the basic principals of many scientific concepts. You could spend hours accidentally looking at all it has to offer, so beware!
You need to download Shockwave to make this site work.
