code breaker

Ever wanted to send a coded message to your friends? If so then get your spy uniform on.

For your eyes only, here’s the Planet Science Codebreaker.

how to encrypt (send a message)

If you want to fool your friends, or give them an idea of your undercover skills, why not send them an encrypted email using the SY Codebreaker.

Click on ‘Encrypt’ - enter a password of your choice - write your secret message - and click ‘Encrypt’ again.

Then, all you have to do fill in your full name and email address, and the address of the person you want to send the message to. Then click send. Easy isn’t it?

This will send your encrypted email to the recipient. Within that email they’ll get all the instructions needed to crack the code and link to the Codebreaker. Well, they do need to crack the code don't they?

how to decrypt (receive a message)

You have just received a message from one of your friends - or something that doesn't make too much sense. A good idea is to decrypt it, assuming that the message was written in Science Year code. All you need to do is click on the ‘Decrypt’ option, then insert the password that was sent to you in the email.

The next step is a little bit more tricky, but being a coding genius you shouldn't have too many problems. What you need to do is copy the encrypted message from the email, including all the arrows (>>>>) at the start. Then right click (PC) or control-click (Mac) on the message text box to paste the message into the box. Click ‘Decrypt’ and there it is, your very own coded message....

Now that you have got the hang of it, why not try this nifty little toy out with your friends and family....?
