this house believes no invention has been better than sliced bread...
Everyone has heard the saying “It’s the greatest thing since sliced bread.” Mobile phones, smoothie makers and the Internet have all been heralded as the new best thing since sliced loaves the ultimate fast food. What could be easier than to reach for a packaged loaf and pull out a slice?
So while it is true that no other invention has captured the consumer’s love of convenience quite as much as sliced bread, does this really mean it is the greatest invention ever? It certainly doesn’t save lives, but the fact we still use a saying about sliced bread must be significant, or is the idea totally half-baked?
