James Beattie

He’s a 25 year old Southampton Football Club player with a love of science and an incredible talent for scoring goals…

Sven Goran Eriksson snapped James up for the England squad in February this year and he made his international debut against Australia. The super-cool Swede says of him: 'If you can score 16 goals in the Premier League, you are a good player. James is very strong, good in the air and scores goals.’

He sure does – but then, he’s been practising for a long time… When he’d just turned 15 he joined Blackburn Rovers Football Club as schoolboy player and signed a Trainee Contract with them a year later. Three years later, he made his Premier League debut in the 1996-97 season at Ewood Park against Arsenal before transferring the following year to Southampton Football Club for £1,000,000.

Since joining the Saints, he’s had his share of injuries but more importantly, he’s made his name by scoring goals by the dozen – including one particular spell when he netted 10 in 10 consecutive matches.
